| "The Woodpeckers" Men's Volunteer Service Group A group of men from the First Presbyterian Church have joined their skills as carpenters, laborers, cooks and/or whatever it takes to be of service to the church family, our community, our state, other states. . . in other words our brothers and sisters in Christ who need help in time of need particularly after a disaster such as the tornadoes that have recently occurred in Arkansas. Their service in the recent past has included building a wheelchair ramp for a local citizen who was unable to enter or exit his home; pumping water from the basement of a church member's home which floods after a lot of rain, adding a porch to a member's house, working mission trips to Gautier, MS after Hurricane Katrina & Gustav, a number of trips to North Arkansas to Gassville and the Clinton area to build storage houses for person's who homes were destroyed by tornadoes. These storage buildings are to give these people a place to put what belongings they have left until their homes could be restored or rebuilt. After the first tornado in Gassville, they cooked and served hot meals to people who had not had a hot meal in days, and yes. . . they even carried dog food so the animals would not be forgotten! Since that time they have prepared a 'mobile' kitchen for use at such times as this. Are you beginning to see the nature of this group? Totally committed to doing God's work by helping others. |
